Act Against Homophobia (AAH) is an initiative caused by the Faroese Government's homophobic legislation. The Faroese Government refuses for instance to make discrimination of people because of their sexual preferences illegal. This means that in the Faroe Islands, discrimination of homosexuals is perfectly legal according to the law.
This protest is to show the Faroese Government and Parliament that whether or not it is in the name of Christianity, the surrounding world does not find discriminating acts against homosexual people acceptable. This kind of legislation is a serious violation of The United Nations' Declaration of Human Rights.
Unfortunately, right now violence and discrimination against people who have spoken up about their homosexuality in public is not uncommon in the Faroe Islands. And because there is no law to protect the homosexual minority against such discrimination, it is often considered legal and acceptable to commit these actions against homosexuals.

Jag är inte så insatt i nyhetsflödet från Färöarna, så jag skulle gärna vilja veta lite mer om vad det är för skeende som har föranlett protesten. Vad är det den färöiska regeringen har sagt, gjort eller vägrar göra, och vad är det som har föranlett det? Hur ser den "homofobiska lagstiftningen" på Färöarna ut, och kan du ge något exempel på någon som har drabbats av den?
Jag skriver inte dessa frågor för att bedriva polemik mot dig eller någon annan utan helt enkelt för att jag inte gärna kan skriva på en protestlista utan att mer konkret veta vad saken gäller. Man kan ju inte fälla en dom utan att ha tillgång till alla fakta i målet.

This all started when a Danish priest working in the Faroes compared homosexuals with pedophiles in a newspaper. And then a Faroese punkgroup wanted to press charges against the priest. But the police found out that there is no law in the Faroes that prohibits people to discriminate homosexuals.
There is a lot more to the story, but it would take me ages to explain. So just sign this petiton, although I doubt it will have any effect. I was part of a group that put adds in the papers urging Faroese politiciants to keep religion and politics seperate, but it had no effect.... These people (a particular political party) are religious fundamentalists. Not all Faroe Islanders are like this mind you!

Det låter otroligt att färöiska lagstiftningen skulle acceptera våld eller personkränkningar mot ngn (oavsett sexuell läggning), kan detta verkligen stämma?
En annan (allvarlig) sak är ifall lagstiftningen inte efterföljs p.g.a. diskriminering.
Det låter väldigt konstigt. Har dom inte en diskrimineringslag redan som omfattar alla, det måste dom ha.
Det finns inga diskrimineringslagar som gäller alla. Om t.ex. homosexualitet inte nämns i lagen, är det inte förbjudet (och därför tillåtet) att diskriminera en homosexuell på basen av hans sexuella läggning.
Det låter konstigt, det håller jag med om. Men det västerländska systemet är att det som inte specifikt är förbjudet, är tillåtet. Man kunde gå in för systemet att det som inte specifikt är tillåtet, är förbjudet. Det kallas diktatur och har prövats på olika håll.
I Tyskland gjordes ett försök med att tillåta diskriminering av judar, homosexuella och andra minoriteter. Det slutade inte så bra...
